Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world’s
A sunny day, oh yeah
I got a Nikon camera
I love to a photograph
So mama, don’t take my Kodachrome away....
Paul Simon had it right, there is nothing like Kodak film in a Nikon camera! Recently my husband and I celebrated our one year anniversary by travelling around the Dingle Peninsula in Ireland, although briefly. With me I took my sturdy favorite point and shoot, the Nikon Sport Touch. With a waterproof yet surprisingly versatile lens, this camera is perfect for rainy Irish days and bumping around in travel baggage. I quickly picked up a roll of Kodak Portra 400 and popped it in on arrival. As It was the the only roll for the trip, I tried to be judicious with my shots in a land of picturesque views.

I then scanned my own negatives on return after development at a local lab. Negatives were a bit grainy in the low light, but the colors are cinematic. I think this camera performs best in slightly better light with black and white film. But I was still quite pleased with the results.

My husband even snagged the camera to take a few shots of me, since I rarely get to see myself on film.

We even managed to snap a few couples portraits with the self-timer. These commemorate our first year of marriage and B's first trip to Ireland.

This trip to the Emerald Isle will be fondly remembered through these rich tones and gloomy skies.
